Reference month: June 2026 · Retrospective prepared on 16 October 2026 · Mr. Hasan Demirtas
International ambition needs a precise understanding of place. A global slowdown does not make every market identical, just as a growing economy does not validate every project. June’s outlook is a useful occasion to ask how a broad economic assessment should influence a careful, selective approach to cross-border opportunities.
The June reference
On 11 June, the World Bank forecast global growth of 2.5% in 2026 and 2.8% in 2027. It reported downward revisions for about two-thirds of economies compared with January. These were World Bank projections under its own methodology; they should not be presented as directly interchangeable with another institution’s global aggregate.
HTA perspective: identify where value is created
Our editorial interpretation is that market selection begins with the purpose of the proposed activity. Who needs the product or service? What evidence supports that need? How does the offer reach the customer, and what must happen before revenue is received? A country label alone cannot answer these questions.
For projects involving several countries, the place of revenue may differ from the place of procurement, delivery or financing. Mapping those elements separately helps a team understand which local developments matter. A change in one market can influence costs while a change elsewhere influences demand. Treating them as a single exposure can hide an important dependency.
Local knowledge should be specific and verifiable. A partner’s understanding of a sector becomes more valuable when it can be connected to documented requirements, realistic timelines and a clear allocation of responsibilities. This provides a stronger basis for collaboration than an unqualified statement that a region offers exceptional potential.
What to revisit next month
The next review should compare the commercial case with the evidence gathered since the previous discussion. Has demand been confirmed more clearly? Are delivery responsibilities settled? Which approval or commitment is still outstanding? This approach does not remove uncertainty, but makes it easier to identify what is ready and what needs further work. For HTA, considered international business means pursuing opportunity with a clear understanding of the commitments it creates.
